  4. SINGLE-TRACKING ON METRO RAIL BEGINS NOVEMBER 1 2026

Single-Tracking on Metro Rail Begins November 1 2026

Single tracking between Humboldt and Allen stations as well as Church and Canalside Stations will start November 1st.

BUFFALO, N.Y.- The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) is continuing its Rail Renewal Project with more improvements on Metro Rail. These upgrades will result in single tracking between Humboldt and Allen stations as well as Church and Canalside Stations starting November 1st.

Temporary Boarding Changes

During the single-tracking period, passengers traveling in either direction must board from the following sides of the platform:

  • Outbound side: Church, Seneca and Canalside stations.
  • Inbound side: Humboldt, Delavan, Utica, Summer-Best and Allen stations.

Please follow station signage when boarding.

DL&W Station will be closed during this phase of construction to help maintain train service at all other stations at approximately 20-minute intervals.

ADA-Accessible Services

When boarding Metro Rail underground and traveling to Church, Seneca or Canalside, please board the rear car of the train. This will ensure your train car opens to an elevated platform at the station.

When boarding at Fountain Plaza or Lafayette traveling inbound to Church, Seneca or Canalside, you first must enter an outbound train and travel to Allen. After arriving at Allen, you must exit, then enter the rear car of an inbound train to ride to your intended destination or take the Route 8 which will be FREE to ride in between the areas of Allen Station and Canalside Station.

These service adjustments will allow crews to support the City of Buffalo’s Cars Sharing Main Street Project and important infrastructure improvements to help maintain reliable service throughout the rail system.

We expect this phase of construction to be completed by the end of November. Passengers are encouraged to sign up for Metro Alerts and allow additional time for their trips during the construction period. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our riders as we make these necessary upgrades and adjustments to improve our rail service.
